Picking maternity Christmas dress might be a pickle, but it also may be a wonderful shopping occasion. Is this the first elegant dinner for you as a new mom? That’s even more magical. And you will look stunning with maternity glow! A lovely dress may add even more charm and help you feel more comfortable.

Dress Cut

Think about your body and what you want to show, and what would you prefer to hide. If you’re right after delivery - think about loose cuts: baby doll shift, trapeze or A-line cut dresses. Those will cover your belly, but you can show legs at the time.

If you’re breastfeeding, you may show off your cleavage a little! Jumper cut or wrap dresses will work fine here.

Remember - you should feel comfortable in the dress, that’s the most important thing.

Fabric

Looking for the maternity Christmas dress - think about the fabrics too. Elastic fabric will wrap your body, while rigid textile will keep the shape.

Also, it’s good to know that big overprints might distract from the body shape. Another tactic to look slimmer would be sticking to dark colors. Consider dark grey navy blue or deep red, since the black is associated with sadness, and you are far from that.

Breastfeeding or pumping

The big question is - should you breastfeed during Christmas dinner? There is no right answer to that. I believe you know what’s best for you and your baby, depending on the party you’re having. Is this a private dinner at your place? Or a big intergenerational party at your parent’s or friend’s house?

If you decide you want to have „a day off”, you can read about breastmilk storing and worming in my How to make breastfeeding pleasant and easy guide. There is a whole chapter on the topic.

And remember, whatever maternity Christmas dress you wear - you look beautiful as a mother!
